Bits of Legionnaire Business

 

In Adventure Comics No. 304 (Jan. 1963), Buddy Le Vigne defined what Allen Pilcher asked of editor Mort Weisinger in issue 301 - suggesting that "Bits of Legionnaire Business" allow fans to write in with their own ideas for super-heroes. Buddy also sent in his suggestion, Polar Boy, a character who was introduced and became the leader of the Substitute Heroes a mere two issues later! Wisely, Mort Weisinger saw the fans as a reservoir of ideas and so "Bits of Legionnaire Business" became a semi-regular feature.

The submissions are listed in alphabetical order; if one was actually used in the lore, a link is provided to that character's page. The issue number refers to the letter column in which the suggestion was made.

  • QUANTITY KID - can make one object into more than one, or make several into one.   • QUANTUM LAD - comes from Lucis, a world of concentrated light. He can emit a laser beam from his right index finger, change into light and hence fly at the speed of light, and pass through transparent objects; in his light form he can dazzle foes.
