In Adventure
Comics No. 304 (Jan. 1963), Buddy
Le Vigne defined what Allen Pilcher asked of editor Mort
Weisinger in issue 301 - suggesting that "Bits of
Legionnaire Business" allow fans to write in with
their own ideas for super-heroes. Buddy also sent in his
suggestion, Polar Boy, a character who was
introduced and became the leader of the Substitute Heroes
a mere two issues later! Wisely, Mort Weisinger saw the
fans as a reservoir of ideas and so "Bits of
Legionnaire Business" became a semi-regular feature.
Special thanks to Clay King for contributing valuable information.
